Mind Controlled Toys?

April 27, 2008

Is the next big development in high tech gadgets going to be mind-controlled toys? Last fall Sega and Neurosky united to try and invent toys that can be manipulated by our thoughts. This of course is being enthusiastically looked forward to by every fan of science fiction that ever lived. It is also likely to enliven the lives of all video game and computer game players. Suddenly battle will become on par with something you would see in a movie like “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” or “The Matrix.”
So what would this type of high tech mind reading toy look like? In the construction of the design there there would have be some kind of headset clamped onto the perosn’s forehead or neck. From there the device would monitor the electrical impulses of your brain. Sega and Neurosky have already announced that their mindreading toy already employs this type of technology.
Mankind is a long ways away from having any type of gadget that can actually read thoughts. However even though it’s capacity would be limited a headset might be able to read rudimentary thoughts in the same way that a lie detector can by picking up on the subtlest of bodily singles. . The idea is that you could use this software to simply will your technology to kill your opponent by thinking about it. It would work my measuring the most minute of muscle movements, brainwaves and other subtle signals that these companies call bio-signals. Even the amount of sweat beading on your neck would count as a bio-signal. However how well this would work is still up for assessment.
Games aside, this type of technology would have other astounding potential. Tiff this type of technology was possible it would have unlimited potential for assisting the disabled, especially those who are unable to use their limbs or who are paralyzed in some way. They might be able to type and move objects as they please using only their will, which would of course be an enormous breakthrough in assistive device technology.
Neurons has been partnering with the SEGA SAMMY GROUP of Tokyo since January 2007 and their strategic partnership was formed to develop the next telepathic generation of entertainment products. It is always odd how entertainment comes first nowadays even though it would have so many applications for the disabled.
The actual name of the device that can clamp onto your head and “read your brainwaves” has already got a brand name. It will be known as “ThinkGear.” Winin a few years SEGA TOYS is expected to develop a franchised product line featuring this technology. What exactly the headgear and other elements of the technology will employ is a big secret as it could be stolen easily by another company. That is also why there is no picture available of this technology yet.

Stupid High Tech Novelties

If you have seen the movie Idiocracy then you are probably aware that high tech is not always used for the noblest of reasons. Here are some examples of some novelties that have recently been invented that fit in the stupid or useless categories.
The Anthem Ball – This is a ball that looks like a regular baseball but it is decorated with hexagons that boast the flags of different countries. You press the hexagon and the country’s National Anthem is played. How many national anthems can fit on a ball like this? The answer is a total of 25! Anthems that are played include the rare ones that you would not expect to find on just any old ball such as Paraguay, Ecuador, Sweden, Serbia, Croatia, the Soviet Republic, Iran and the Ukraine. So you could say it is a learning tool of sorts. Of course buying one of these high tech balls is the patriotic thing to do no matter what country you are from!
The Electronic Yodeling Pickle - Who says that technology is a terrible thing to waste? This is a piece of plastic shaped like a pickle. It has a button on it. When you press the button it emits a hideous continuous yodeling. Believe it or not it costs fifteen bucks. Not exactly a bargain.
The Get Off The Phone Excuse Machine – This is a little gadget that you put on your keychain. There are all kinds of little buttons that make different sounds. The idea is that you can press one of the buttons and play the excuse into the mouthpiece of the phone. There is a doorbell, a siren, a knock, a crashing car sound and a very handy button that just plays static. This way you can pretend that the phone line is going dead and that you can’t hear them anymore.
Yet another interesting little stupid gadget is called the Cell Phoney. Basically it is a little device that simulates the popular rings of many different types of cell phones. You press a button and the simulated ring causes everyone on the bus or in the restaurant to scramble for their cell phones. Presumably this is a way to get even with all of those people that are always talking very loudly on their cell phones in public.
An almost artistic piece of stupid high tech technology is the Robotic Musical hand. This is a dismembered hand that when activated makes movements as if it is playing the piano. It plays classical music in the air and the effect is quite creepy.
Among the stupidest high tech gadgets that you can get are the ones that plug into your computer’s USB outlet. You can get freestanding pole dancers, pairs of battling sumo wrestlers and desk top fans that plug directly into your computer’s outlets.

One of the most high tech hotels in the world is the Samsung Shilla Hotel, which is in Seoul, Korea. This is one of those world class hotels that goes to great lengths to create a very slick environment that includes high speed internet (that never fails), enormous flat screen displays, kitchens with mini microwaves and fitness clubs that have the very latest in exercise equipment. In terms of catering to the comfort of the rich computer oriented entrepreneur, the Shilla is one of the most famous hotels in the world.
The Shilla rooms have round beds that rotate and mobile phone in every room. This makes the visitor feel like he or she is a character out of a James Bond or Austin Powers movie. The television volume is automicatally linked into the phone so whenever you answer a call it is automatically turned down. Also if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night the water closets are outfitted with lights that brighten very gradually over time so that your eyes are not hurt by a burst of switched on light.
The toilets too have all of the latest features including spray functions, dryers, warmed seats and massage options. The flush on the toilets is soundless and the toilets are self-cleaning so they are always pristine.
Of course most hotels in a big city like Seoul are wireless nowadays beta t this one you can take your computer down to the hotel’s sculpture garden and connect to the internet there. You can surf your computer in an idyllic Garden of Eden.
The high tech theme continues on to the hotel’s salons which contain state of the art infra red and microdermabrasion treatments, laser resurfacing tratments, laser hair removal as well as state of the art computer programs that test your body for heavy metal contamination.
There are other hotels in Seol that have some pretty nifty features as well. The JW Marriott Hotel has a high tech swimming pool that pulls up thermal spring waters from below its foundations as well as a scuba diving pool.
At the Grand Hyatt in Seoul the swimming pool converts into an ice skating rink. It has high tech safes that you can store your portable computer in.
Yet another great hotel is the W Seoul-Walkerhill. It has a very famous bar called the Woo Bar. It grabs everyone’s attention immediately because it has an 18-meter long bar that is decorated with interactive artwork, multimedia screens and a DJ who spins from a booth that is shaped like a spaceship. This place looks like a set out of Star Trek with egg shaped chairs, spindle legged tables and a bright orange and black décor. Stanley Kubrick would love this place too!
