Some of the neatest gadgets are those theta are designed to make everything new look old again.
One of the neatest ideas, especially when it comes to recycling are the drink coasters that have been made from recycled LP record centers. Basically the center of the record where the label is has been cut out and laminated on both sides to make them into waterproof coasters. These cost about twenty dollars for a set of four. The only challenge is finding ones that feature bands that you really like.
Some years ago Sanyo put out a roundish fifties style television shit an now they have created a seventies style picture frame that looks just like it. The new digital phone frame is called the ALBO. It looks like a miniature space age television screen and it is possible to swivel the image so you get the best effect. This is a designer item that can play several images in sequence and it is not cheap at $422 .
Do you like the ancient stand up phones from the fifties and sixties. Back then the upright Swedish phone was all the rage. The dial was on the bottom of the phone and the ear piece stood straight up. You just picked it up and yelled into it. It takes you back to an era when Grace Kelly and Cary Grant ruled the world. The new Scand phone retails for about 100 dollars U.S and comes in white and orange.
Also very much in vogue for families are retro style Wii Controllors. These are those Club Nintendo style controllers with the big ex on them and the four buttons. They really appeal to the nostalgic nose of those who played a lot of Super Mario when they were younger. The only problem is that if you are a gamer living outside of Japan you have to join Club Nintendo in order to get it.
Do you remember the levitating golf balls that used to be all the rage on office desks? Well, they are back. The levitating golf ball is also a play on the much more common levitating earth or planet globe. The ball looks like it is hovering in space. This kind of thing makes a nice gift for Father’s Day. You can also get a baseball version. They cost about thirty bucks.
Big on the retro market is point and shoot cameras that look like Fisher Price toys. One of the most commonly known brands is the Takara Tomy from Japan. This product is targeted at women in their twenties. They are brightly colored plastic cameras in pink, green, blue or black and there is not one ounce of metal in them. They also come with filter sets that enable you to put some special effects in the picture. Some of these filters include dramatic frames, deforming lenses and cross light effects.
