This year’s most fashionable and eco- green Christmas decorating must-haves are LED holiday lights. LEDs which are short for light-emitting diodes, use the same technology fiber optic communication systems do to light up our dark Christmas days. You are probably used to seeing these lights on your car dashboard but in the last decade the technology has also been used to create Christmas decorations.
LED lights are made from two or more different semiconductor materials layered together like a sandwich. One side has a positive charge and the other a negative. When you plug these lights into an electrical source the negative and positive charges spark up to create a particle of light which does not seem to be part of the fiber they sit on. This creates photons that give them an otherworldly glow. Photons like this come in different colors which are caused by the different wavelengths. The color of the LED bud also sometimes depends on the type of semi-conductor that is used. Some LEDs have tinted caps that also help create the illusion of color as this is less expensive then using semi-conductors that create different wave lengths.
According to Philips, and other manufacturers, these “solid state” lights can last for up to 80,000 hours. There’s no filament to burn out and no glass bulb to break. Plus, LEDs use only about five percent of the energy required to power other Christmas lights. For those of us who fuss about reducing our electric bills this is great news. Of course the less power we use in general like this the less we have to worry about pollution and other problems.
LED Christmas lights cost about twice as much as mini-light strands. Depending on how many hours you plan to run them, you might see a return on the cost of them within a year. They also last years and years. They do not burn out like regular Christmas light screens which make them very economical to own.
For most of us, however, buying all new LED lights to replace perfectly good mini-lights is not going to happen because, it would be too expensive. If this is true for you just take it slow and replace your current light bulb strings as they burn out with the new LED Christmas Light Strings.

Perhaps the simplest and most straightforward proven passive income strategy is to create a simple website, and then feature advertising on that site from which you can generate an income. This simply means installing an Adsense widget on your site. This is the best gadget for earning you an online income.
For example, whereas in the previous chapter we considered advertising using the Google AdWords program, it is possible to carry these advertising materials on your own webpage using the sister AdSense program. This is ‘the other side’ of the Google PPC advertising program, and now, every time a visitor to your site clicks on an advert that you are featuring, you will be paid a percentage of the revenues that Google receive from the advertiser.
In this scenario, all that you need to have is a space where you can build a webpage that provides information to members of your target audience. You would then use the articles and videos that you created in the previous chapter to send as many targeted visitors as possible to that site.
And, whilst you cannot include anything on that site that artificially encourages the visitors to click on the advertising materials that you are displaying, in truth, you do not need to do so because the advertising itself does the job for you.
This is because any advert shown on your webpage will be matched to the topic or subject matter of that page. For instance, if your webpage is all about fly fishing, then the advertising displayed on your page by AdSense would be from companies or individuals who have a product or service to promote that is fly fishing related. Consequently, because the adverts match the interests of your visitors, featuring PPC advertising on your site is an excellent way of generating a completely passive income.
It is even possible to create an entirely free website and feature AdSense advertising thereon.
The primary resource that marketers use to do this is blogger.com, and whilst this does have the advantage of being free, it has the disadvantage that you do need to have a small degree of involvement in your site once or twice a week.
This is necessary because when you create a blog site, it is essential that you add fresh content to that site every two or three days, and then ‘ping’ notification to the major search and directory sites that you have done so. By doing this, you keep the search engines ‘happy’, and that is one of the most effective ways of ensuring that you see a steady flow of new traffic on your site.
In addition to this, because blogger.com is owned by Google, it is remarkably easy to include AdSense on your site. Once you have logged into blogger using either your Google log-in information or by opening a new account, the first thing you need to do is create your new blog. This is a simple, three step process where you choose a blog title, a URL and a template. That being done, that is it, you are good to go.

USB snowmen are also all the rage and can light up the most boring of workspaces. Most of these are traditional and feature the three round white globes and the top hat and red scarf. You can get really fancy USB snowmen including ones with clear glass bodies that blow bubbles inside and the Snowbot what is half cyclone. Whether kitschy or futuristic, the snowman theme never goes out of style at Christmas.
Regardless of which one you choose you simply plug them into an available USB port on your computer and you are greeted with instant Christmas cheer. For those that can’t spare the USB port or want something a little less showy you can also find many different Christmas desktop wallpapers and other images to grace your digital desktop as well. You just simply go online and you are bound to find holiday backdrops for your computer screen from any culture.
Sure, it would be easier to just go out and buy a set of Christmas lights and plug them in but there is no novelty ? For a little more than the price of a set of generic Christmas lights you can buy the USB Christmas Decoration Kit, a handy little gathering of items that are all perfectly sized for gracing the sides of your monitor. The kit even comes with access to Christmas desktop wallpaper and sounds.
To some people these USB Christmas gadgets may seem a tad over the top. Still, brightening up your office with a little holiday cheer can make the cold days of winter pass a little quicker.
