It seems that the technological front can never get enough of gadgets that use LEDS. Some of them are incredibly clever.

For instance you can get something dubbed the Tractor Beam Shower Head. Of course it is not really a tractor beam. The water is lit by a violet and dark blue light as the water pounds down on you. Simply turn out the lights and you will have the look of showering beneath a tractor beam at the very least. Therapists even have a name for this type of shower – chromatherapy. They make it seem like you are actually being bathed in a shower of light. These interesting showerheads are made by a company called Visentin.

Looking for an eco LED that is “green” in nature? In that case you might be interested in Clutch Lights. These are lamps made out of old drinking straws. The straws are stacked in a circle and the LED lights are embedded below. The straws are different colors so all kinds of different shapes and colors are created.

Also very green in nature are the new paper lamps. Danish researcher Frederik Krebs has created an LED lamp that may bring cheap lighting to millions who now rely on kerosene lanterns as their primary source of evening light. The lamp combines photovoltaic cells printed on sheets with LEDs and ultra-thin lithium batteries and will cost about seven dollars each to produce.

The lamps are left rolled out flat during the day for charging and rolled and button snapped into a cone-shaped light-emitting cone at night.
How about being able to “see” when your phone is ringing. An inventor in Japan has come up with a phone that does not just light up when it is ringing. It emits light rays that flow when it rings. If your phone is in your pocket or purse it will seem to fill up with light and cascade so you know to answer it. This is very new but impressive technology and is so far known as Lucent Phone Signals which alludes to it being “light with intellect.”

Do you remember the dance floor in the infamous Micheal Jackson video “Billie Jean”? Now you can get these tiles for you house. They feature footprints shapes made out of LEDS that light up every time you step somewhere on the tiles. They would give a futuristic touch to any home’s décor.

LED stands for ‘light-emitting diode,’ and it’s the technology behind all of these awesome contemporary lit-up designs. LED lights have been used in everything from tattoos (yes, really) to furniture design.
If you want to light up your next party try making ice bulbs. An Ice Bulb is basically a ball of ice with a LED light in it, but the effect itself looks pretty intriguing. The designer describes, “You make it by placing the contraption inside water, which is placed inside a balloon, which is placed inside your freezer. These are casually called Ice Bulbs.

Speaking of illumination you can now also get large drippy looking “wax” candles that are actually plastic. They look like a candle burning because they have a diode inside. This type of candle definitely reduces the risk of fire. A tipped over candle need never be a concern again.

A great idea is the new illuminated banisters. These look exactly like regular banisters but they illuminated from within.

One of the weirdest things that you can get is LED eyelashes. These are big in Japan. These are false eyelashes above which are fitted tiny glowing diodes. You can wear them above or below the eyeliner.
If that is not enough you can now get LED tattoos. The tattoo design features silicone implants with LEDs in them. This concept was developed by Researchers from MIT, the University of Pennsylvania and Illinois. Unlike traditional inked tattoos, the LED tattoos main purpose won’t be to make a fashion statement.

They were originally invented for medical purposes, like displaying blood-sugar readings on skin. This is made possible by embedding an electronic silicon transistor under the skin.

The main research focus is on epilepsy, but also encompasses “implantable neurodevices, functional neurosurgery, network and computational neuroscience, movement disorders, intra-operative and ICU monitoring, major mental illness, and other brain network disorders.

Technology sometimes manifests in amusing ways.

For instance let’s take a look at that very simple device called a ruler. Technology has allowed some very peculiar ones to be invented. For instance you can get on shaped completely like a banana. You then fit a condom that has markings measured in inches over it. At least that is one way for teachers to push home the point that their students should have safe sex.

You can also get a ruler that is shaped like a cut-out of a rifle. The idea is you can hold it by its trigger to measure a surface. It is quite menacing looking.

For those of you who like the idea of writing with a feathered quill you can now get the look without the mess by using The Plume. This is a metal feathered quill with a compartment inside that hides a pen cartridge. This allows you to write and not make a mess at the same time.

There is also a device for measuring pasta on the market that actually looks like a set of brass knuckles. It is filled with holes and each is labeled for one serving of dry pasta as in child, one, couple, and triplets. This way you can measure out exactly the amount of spaghetti that you need to serve and never waste any of it ever again.

Another new invention is the Inkless Pen. This means you can no longer have one break up in your shirt pocket and cost you a trip to the dry cleaners. Inkless pens will allow you to scribe onto paper with a special metal alloy. “This solid metal ‘nib’ of this particular metal pen is made from metal alloy rather than silver. This is a completely green pen but the drawback is that it does not work on every type of surface. The mark it leaves look like a pencil mark however it can never be erased.

Remember those mood rings you got as a kid? Now you can get something called a mood pen. These little pens have sensors in it that can record you mood as you write. In fact the pen is capable of monitoring all kinds of things including your heart rate! This means that if your pen is glowing it is not necessarily a good thing and it might be time to take a break!
